Domestic Electrical Services in Reading & Berkshire

Electrical work in someone's home isn't the same job as electrical work on a site. Somebody lives there. There's a kitchen that needs to work at teatime, a router that can't go down all afternoon, kids and dogs and someone upstairs on a call. That's the bit a lot of firms forget, and it's the bit we plan around.

So we book a time and turn up at it. Sheets go down before anything comes up. We tell you which circuits are going off and for roughly how long, rather than you finding out when the freezer stops humming. Cables get clipped straight whether they'll be seen or not, holes get made good, and the mess leaves with us at the end of the day. Your house goes back to being a house.

Most of our customers are homeowners in and around Reading. We also work for landlords and letting agents who need jobs turning round between tenancies, with certification that stands up when someone asks for it. If you're managing a property from a distance, we'll deal with the tenant direct and keep you copied in.

On the domestic side we cover garden rooms, garage conversions and extensions β€” the new-space work that needs designing properly from the start. Consumer unit upgrades, where an old fuseboard with rewireable fuses gets replaced by a modern board with RCBO protection on each circuit, so a fault takes out one circuit instead of the whole house. Bespoke lighting installation and media wall lighting. Upgrading old fittings to efficient LED. Faceplate uplifts. And small jobs, which are on the list on purpose.

Thurston First Electrical is a family firm run by Barry Thurston, working out of Coley Park. Barry's on the tools with the team, so you're not handed to a subcontractor once the quote's signed. We're NICEIC-registered on the Domestic Installer scheme β€” the scheme for electrical work in people's homes β€” and Barry holds an ECS card at JIB Electrician grade. Work is done to BS 7671, tested and certificated, and notified to Building Control where it needs to be. Public liability cover is Β£5 million, and our workmanship is guaranteed for as long as the manufacturer's warranty runs on the parts we've fitted.

We're across Reading and the villages around it, from Caversham and Emmer Green in the north to Whitley and Shinfield in the south, out west through Tilehurst, Calcot, Theale and Purley-on-Thames, and east to Earley, Woodley, Winnersh, Twyford and Sonning. The full list of areas has a page for each one.

Quotes are free, written down, and there's no obligation. Ring us or drop us a line and we'll get a date in the diary.
